View to the Sea
During the sixteen years I lived in Jamaica West Indies after my university studies, the intense Caribbean sunlight afforded me an opportunity to develop an interplay of light and shadows that became central to my work.
Using large areas of colors that reflect a minimal and abstract approach to the subject matter, themes such as water, objects within the landscape, and views framed by windows dominated my work throughout the 1980's.
I painted this scene using oils on a 40-inch-high x 52-inch-wide stretched linen (1989).
